Siem Reap province located in north-western Cambodia. We will leave the capital in search of good fishing spots and boat trips on the Tonle Sap Lake.
Siem Reap is one of Cambodia’s tourist hotspots, drawing crowds who visit the temples of Angkor and the Tonle Sap Lake.
The Tonle Sap Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. The livelihoods of families on the lake depend on fishing as they both sell and eat what they catch. Living on floating houses, most of these families are poor and lack access to health centers and schools. 500,000 tons of fish is caught from the lake every year.
You will visit the Kampong Kleang, Mechrey and Prek Toul floating villages located on the lake.
Fishing rods and drinks will be provided on the tour. Some of the fish you may catch includes Catfish, Redtail Catfish, Asian Catfish, Mekong Spot Catfish, Croaker, Tinfoil barb, Hoeven’s Slender Carp, Transverse-bar barb and other species. Everyone will enjoy the fresh air and beautiful views as you relax on a boat and fish on the lake.
The Mechrey village is a small community 45 minutes away from the capital. Fishermen’s families live on the water and their livelihoods depend on fishing. After passing through the floating village, we will stop to fish for about 30 minutes in various locations. Depending on the season, you will be able to see different types of fish. We use worms, crickets and fish paste as bait.
Our boat trip on the lake will provide a unique and enjoyable experience of fishing in Cambodia.
Kampong Kleang village is located about 35 kilometers east of Siem Reap City. During this tour you will see wooden houses, which are built on towering stilts to avoid flooding.
Kampong Kleang is situated in the middle of the lake. There are a lot of different fish here since the water is deeper than Mechrey village. We will also be situated near the fishing conservation area that is protected by the government.
We will stop to fish at the fishing conservation area, but we are not allowed to bring fish home, although we can have some for lunch. If you catch more than 5 kilograms you have to release them back to the water.
After our morning fishing trip, We will be travel through the village and return to land in the afternoon. During your trip you will enjoy lunch, beer, Coca-Cola and cook the fish from Tonle Sap Lake. We will pick you up from your hotel at 7:30 am by Tuk-Tuk and drop you off later that day when the tour is over.
Prek Toul floating village is an ecotourism site in a bird sanctuary arbor on the Tonle Sap Lake.
Prek Toul is a sanctuary arbor that has more than 150 species of water birds such as Spot billed Pelican, Milky Stork, Painted Stork, Lesser Adjutant, Greater Adjutant, Black headed Ibis, and Oriental Darter. There also is a globally significant population of Grey-headed Fish Eagles and Masked Finfoot.
We will leave the hotel at 7.30 a.m. by Tuk Tuk to the boat. You will spend one hour and a half on the boat as we cross a flooded forest. We will stop the boat within the flooded forest to fish for 30 minutes at different locations within the forest before arriving at Prek Toul village.
After fishing, you will enjoy a Cambodian-style lunch on a floating house in a village. We will then bring you back to town before dark.
